Students Testimonials

My time at Wudang Traditional Daoist Academy has been an extremely informative and practical learning experience.  The attitude of the coaches, combined with the general atmosphere of the school makes you feel like part of large like minded family. I was fortunate enough to study under Louis Tan, who's experience with traditional Wudang martial arts is extensive and well ingrained into his personality. His depth of knowledge and vast experience in gong fu, tai ji, and various Daoist arts makes for a thoroughly interesting and fulfilling tuition. Anyone who wishes for a further reference of his talents and experience should feel free to contact me at baxteratstocko@hotmail.com

Louis Tan was my coach during my time practicing taiji, qigong and maditation at the Wudang Daoist Traditional Internal Kungfu Academy. For me it was a great privilege to learn from him, as he was one of the most talented students of Master Yuan. Actually, to be talented is one thing to have the ability to teach is another, which Louis has both. Beside these, what makes Louis one of the best coaches, is that he is not only interested in only teaching the forms, but concerned with his students as a whole; emotionally, physically and mentally. He can easily adopt his knowledge to the student's unique capacity and style, which makes learning and practicing joyful for the student. I have been supported, taught and healed by him during his coaching, for which I am always grateful. Whoever has an opportunity to learn from him is a very lucky person.

Staying at the Wudang Traditional Daoist Academy for one year, is one of those experience that changes your life.

Learning from Master Yuan, and Louis as a coach, went beyond learning tai ji and gi gong postures. It was about respect, perseverance, pushing the body, opening the mind and allowing to change and grow.

Thank you Louis, for being my coach & friend. You made me find the strengh to push myself beyond my limits.

“A man with two legs can walk, a man with one foot can hop, but a man with no legs can fly”, he used to tell me. Louis Tan was a curious case of eccentricity for all the time that I’ve been in the school. When everybody was exhausted and bellyaching away about the summer heat and intense training, myself included, he was out in the sun improving his talent with a smile on his face… or eating a mile of dumplings in town.
Instead of walking along the parallel line with everybody else, I’m going to turn the world upside down and tell you about my old mentor, not as the amazing Martial Artist that he is, but as a person. I came here with my Canadian family when I was ten years old in 2010. I never liked it much to be honest. I disliked the food, the training and pretty much everything else that came with Wudang Shan.

When I first arrived at Wudang with no kung fu experience to speak off, Louis was the first coach that introduced me to the comings and goings of the school. I had many ideas about what I wanted to learn in my time here in Wudang but Louis made sure that I did not get ahead of my self and started at the basics, something that helped a lot in the rest of my time here.

Besides the basic form training all the coaches offered, louis went beyond that and helped us with additional exercises to add and augment the rest of the training. Some off the structures he implemented in the time he was teaching as a coach in Wudang where picked up by the other coaches and are still used,

Besides that Louis has a good grasp of both Asian and Western culture, giving learning from him both authenticity while still being relaxed. he is a funny man and will often make you laugh. I have enjoyed learning from him.

I came to Wudang Taoist Traditional Kung Fu Academy in the early spring 2014; it was my first experience in such a kind of “sport” and philosophy. Of course, I knew something about Kung Fu, but I have never tried myself in it and martial arts at all.Louis Tan was my coach at the Academy. It was a great time to me; the more I trained with him the deeper my respect for Kung Fu become. I have learned much about myself, as I never did before in my whole life. It was not easy at the beginning of my education, I have never did it before but Louis could motivate me to train, he taught me to listen to my body.

I really enjoyed training with him; his energy and spirit are unique. His teaching has been very helpful to understand my internal world and body and has brought me lot of experiences. He taught us to be orderly, after every class, we were able to ask him any question and discuss any problem. After month training in the Academy, I have seen the progress physically and spiritually. Being in Louis’s class has helped me feel like a part of a family. I am glad that he has shared with me all that he has learned. He is professional coach, interesting person and a good friend.

I was at the traditional daoist kung fu academy for 1 year. The life in school was unique and a wonderfull atmophere like a big familly where you can share and meet people of the world and  participate more to the chinese culture by activities and festivals throughout the whole year.It was a very nice experience, I learned a lot, not just forms but also in my mind.Having Louis as coach was a good opportunity to understand better Dao, Taiji, QiGong...He knows exactly what you need for your requirement. If I' ll have the opportunity to come back, I will do it now...

Louis was my teacher for 4 months during the time i spent in wudang. he taught me many different styles, from tai chi and ba gua to different weapon forms like sword and staff, and he taught them all in a very high level. Louis made an effort to make all his students feel like a small family and be there for each other when needed and he did a good job of it. he also knew how to approach each student differently and relate to him/her in the way that was best for them. i had a great time being your student and hope we meet again someday.

Hello. My name is William Earl Dick III.  I go by Trey.  I am a licensed acupuncturist in the state of Texas.  I have studied martial arts for the past 18 years.  I traveled to WuDangShan to renew my studies in the arts.  I felt that my training there would be a great way to improve myself personally and professionally.  I paid for two months initially.  I initially studied BaGuaZhang and Monk Spade.  Louis became my coach while I was studying Monk Spade.  I was able to extend my stay for another 6 months and was able to study with Louis for about 3 months total.  I studied Monk Spade, Tai Ji 28, Xuan Men Jian, and Tai Yi Wu Xing Xuan.  Louis studied at Shaolin before studying Wu Dang martial arts.  This provides a excellent scope of experience as well as contrast for a instructor such a Louis.  Louis was able to relate traditional martial art principles clearly to myself and other students.  The most memorable was his talk with me about having a energetic savings plan.  Although a lot of traditions in China have this teaching, I believe Wu Dang martial arts do this very well.  Through this teaching I have removed people and activities that take my energy.  I also became more aware and careful of how I was spending my energy/time.  I encourage anyone interested in martial arts, heath preservation, personal development to pursue study in Wu Dang Gong Fu.
